The first big test of the season is complete. Now, the Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation turns the page to October.

After three packed days at the Ice Breaker Showcase, AGHF teams return to regular-season action October 2–4 with a much better idea of where they stand and what lies ahead.

The Ice Breaker brought together 100 teams from 32 clubs and provided the first major measuring stick of the 2026-27 season. Close games, comeback victories, overtime finishes and standout individual performances filled the weekend.

With the showcase now in the rearview mirror, the focus shifts back to the regular season.

Here’s what to know heading into the first weekend of October.

The Ice Breaker Delivered

If the first showcase was any indication, there should be plenty of competitive hockey ahead.

The Ice Breaker finished with 199 games, and 29 were decided by just one goal. Nine games ended tied and five required overtime.

There was plenty of late-game drama, too. Sixty-four goals were scored inside the final two minutes of the third period, including 22 in the final 30 seconds.

One of the weekend’s biggest moments came at 14U Diamond, where Snider Hockey erased a three-goal deficit to defeat Cranford Hockey Club 5-4 in overtime. Kayden Martinez scored four goals, including the overtime winner.

At 16U Platinum, the New York Islanders overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 6-5, while overtime winners also highlighted the weekend at 12U Platinum, 14U Elite and 19U Elite.

The showcase was designed to test teams against competition they may not normally see during regular-season play.

Consider that test passed.

Now comes the question of which teams can build on what they learned.

Teams Carrying Momentum Into October

Fourteen teams left the Ice Breaker with perfect 4-0 records, giving several clubs plenty of momentum heading into the new month.

The Philadelphia Jr Flyers were perfect in multiple divisions, including 14U Elite and 16U Elite, while Snider Hockey also produced two undefeated showcase performances.

At 10U Platinum, both Snider Hockey and the Princeton Tiger Lilies went 4-0. Stateline Hawks did the same at 10U Diamond.

The perfect weekends continued at 12U Elite. Philadelphia Jr Flyers, Union Thunder and York Lady Devils each went 4-0 in Platinum, while Royals Hockey Club and Snider Hockey ran the table in Diamond.

Among the older teams, MYHA went 4-0 at 19U Elite, while Mon Valley Thunder and Potomac Lady Patriots each posted perfect weekends at 19U Platinum.

Four games in three days can test depth, consistency and resilience. Those teams answered the challenge.

Now they’ll try to carry it into regular-season play.

Players to Watch

The Ice Breaker also gave plenty of players an opportunity to make their mark.

Kayden Martinez of Snider Hockey delivered one of the showcase’s signature performances, scoring four times in a 5-4 overtime comeback victory at 14U Diamond.

Elizabeth Nguyen of MYHA scored three times in a 5-4 victory over Team Long Island before returning Sunday and scoring an overtime winner against the Saugerties Fillies.

At 10U Diamond, Kate Carchidi of the Philadelphia Jr Flyers scored five times in a 7-5 victory over the CT Ice Cats, while Rebecca Henderson of Team Long Island scored four goals in a tightly contested 14U Elite matchup against MYHA.

Goaltenders made their presence felt throughout the weekend as well.

Julianna Swigart of the South Jersey Monarchs faced an incredible 146 shots over two days at 19U Platinum, while Sarah Ismail of the Reston Raiders recorded a 44-save shutout at 19U Diamond.

Those were some of the names that made noise at the showcase. October brings the opportunity to see who keeps it going.

From Showcase Mode Back to the Regular Season

Showcase weekends are different.

Four games packed into one weekend can bring unfamiliar opponents, quick turnarounds and little time to adjust between games. That makes the Ice Breaker a valuable early-season test.

Now, teams return to the rhythm of regular-season hockey with more information than they had a week ago.

Some discovered they can win close games. Others showed they can come from behind. Some found scoring depth, while others received big performances between the pipes.

And for teams that didn’t get the results they wanted, the showcase provided something just as valuable: an early opportunity to identify what needs to improve.

With September complete, the standings will continue to develop and every weekend provides another opportunity to gain ground.

The first measuring stick is behind us.

Now it’s time to build.
