The Princeton Tiger Lilies wore pink for a purpose on September 26. PTL’s U12 AAA, U14 AAA, U16 AAA and U19 AAA teams took the ice at East Brunswick Ice Arena for the first of two Pink the Rink events, raising awareness for breast cancer research and funds for Pennies in Action.

The cause has a connection to skating. Pennies in Action was founded by Uschi Keszler, an Olympic skater and coach who survived breast and uterine cancer. The organization supports cancer vaccine research, including work on ways to prompt the immune system to recognize and fight breast cancer. That research is ongoing, and Pennies in Action has been acknowledged as a supporter of published breast cancer vaccine research.

Across six games on September 26, the four PTL teams faced the NJ Bandits, Team Long Island and JRF. The pink jerseys made the message visible throughout the day: these players were using their time on the ice to support a cause beyond hockey. All proceeds from PTL’s Pink the Rink events will go to Pennies in Action. The effort continues this weekend on October 3 with PTL’s Tier II teams, from U8 through U19.
