Weekend Headlines

GAME OF THE WEEKEND — New York Islanders trailed NYC Cyclones by two goals in 19U Diamond and answered with three straight in the second period to win 3-2. Lila McGEE and Marissa Dominque drew them level, and Emma Sherwood buried the winner with 1:25 left in the period.

TOP PLAYER PERFORMANCE — Lily Carnevale, New Jersey Jets, 14U Platinum. With the game tied 2-2 and five and a half minutes to play, Carnevale broke the deadlock with 32.4 seconds left and scored again as the horn sounded.

GOALIE PERFORMANCE — Paige King, Union Thunder, 19U Diamond. King faced 42 shots against the NYC Cyclones and turned away every one of them — the weekend’s heaviest workload to end in a shutout.

UNBEATEN WEEKEND — Philadelphia Jr Flyers went 2-0 three times over, at 10U Diamond, 16U Diamond and 19U. MYHA did it twice, in 16U Platinum and 19U Diamond. Saugerties Fillies at 14U and Princeton Tiger Lilies at 12U also finished the weekend unbeaten.

CT Ice Cats and NJ Bandits played the tightest 10U game of the weekend. Caroline Plaxsun opened the scoring and Anika Brigham settled it in the final period for a 2-1 win, Harper Safir picking up the assist. A day later Union Thunder had the better of NJ Bandits, with Talia Purdo (two goals and an assist) and Maeve Tepe (a goal and two assists) doing most of the damage.

10U Diamond

The Philadelphia Jr Flyers took both games from MYHA, and Kate Carchidi was the reason — six goals in the first meeting and three more in the second, nine for the weekend. Soley Plunkett closed out the sweep with a shutout in game two.

12U Platinum

Union Thunder spread the scoring around against NJ Bandits, Kamya Jaidev finishing with a goal and two assists in a win built on three separate multi-point nights. Gracie Moran kept a clean sheet as Stateline Hawks beat Team Long Island, and Princeton Tiger Lilies went 2-0 in cross-division play — Emma Burdge scored three in one of them, and Jenna Ramadan posted shutouts in both.

12U Diamond

The division’s only game went to Snider Hockey in cross-division play, and they were never troubled. Malin Norremo scored four times and Eliza Weaver finished with three goals and two assists.

New Jersey Jets and Philadelphia Liberties produced the weekend’s best finish: tied 2-2 with five and a half minutes left, the Jets won it on Lily Carnevale’s goal with 32.4 seconds on the clock, and she added another at the horn. New York Islanders had to hold on as well, leading Union Thunder by three before conceding twice in the final period and seeing it out 3-2, with Lola Bleiman’s goal proving the decisive one. Potomac Lady Patriots scored in bunches, Emma DeFilippis finishing with nine goals and two assists and Baylee Semlitsch adding five goals and an assist.

14U Diamond

One game, and one goaltender decided the shape of it. Union Thunder beat Tri City Eagles without conceding, Kareena Reddy making 26 saves for the shutout and Alisha Damani chipping in a goal and an assist.

14U

Saugerties Fillies went 2-0 in cross-division play and the scoring came from everywhere — Etta Fellows finished the weekend with three goals and three assists, Addison Matthews with a goal and five assists, and the Fillies kept a clean sheet in the first of the two. Team Long Island and Princeton Tiger Lilies split a pair, Amelia Suchocki scoring twice in Princeton’s win, before Team Long Island shut out North Jersey Avalanche with Leah Nichols in net.

16U

16U Platinum

MYHA went 2-0 in cross-division play with Zhara Saurman scoring and assisting in both games, and Brooklyn Fogel finished the second of them with a shutout. Saugerties Fillies also won theirs, Alexa Czumak scoring the goal that put them two clear.

16U Diamond

Philadelphia Jr Flyers swept Jr Bulldogs, though not comfortably. In the first game the Bulldogs wiped out a two-goal deficit to level the score before Isabelle Herhal put the Flyers back in front with 1:30 left in the second period; Herhal scored the decisive goal in the rematch too, after the Bulldogs had cut the lead to one early in the third. Elsewhere NYC Hockey Club won 2-0 on two Elly Younger goals with Paige Howard turning aside 20 shots, and a cross-division game at the same age group turned on a single goal, Princeton Tiger Lilies’ Vanessa Ragucci scoring with 1:13 left in the opening period and Madison Stahl keeping the clean sheet behind her.

19U

19U Platinum

The division’s single game was a good advertisement for it. Snider Hockey and South Jersey Monarchs traded goals through two periods before Madeline Quinn settled it early in the third for a 3-2 win, with Abyssinia Yohanes having scored Snider’s first two.

19U Diamond

Four games, and three of them ended without the winning goaltender conceding. MYHA took both from Lehigh Valley Phantoms with Jocelyn Ford and Kayla Havey splitting the shutouts, and Union Thunder’s Paige King produced the weekend’s standout goaltending with a 42-save clean sheet. The exception was the best game of the weekend anywhere in AGHF, New York Islanders coming from two goals down to beat NYC Cyclones 3-2 on Emma Sherwood’s strike with 1:25 left in the second period.

19U Elite

Philadelphia Jr Flyers went 2-0 against NJ Bandits across Saturday. Natalie Musser set up three goals in the first meeting and Kacie Kaough scored twice and added an assist in the second.
