Thirteen games across seven AGHF divisions produced exactly one single-goal finish, and it was the best game of the weekend: Hampton Roads Warriors edged Tri City Eagles 1-0 in 16U Diamond. Everything else was decided by two goals or more, but the weekend still had plenty to show off — a four-goal afternoon, back-to-back shutouts from the same goaltender, and four teams that got through it unbeaten.
Weekend Headlines
GAME OF THE WEEKEND — Hampton Roads Warriors 1, Tri City Eagles 0. Chloe Copen scored with 12:52 left in the second period and Lillianna Smith turned aside 20 shots to make it stand up — the only one-goal game on the AGHF schedule all weekend.
TOP PLAYER PERFORMANCE — Ella Whiteman scored four goals for Royals Hockey Club 12U Diamond against Snider Hockey, among them the goal that gave the Royals a lead they never gave back.
GOALIE PERFORMANCE — Lillianna Smith (Hampton Roads Warriors 16U Diamond) made 47 saves across two games on back-to-back days and did not allow a goal in either one.
UNBEATEN WEEKEND — Reston Raiders 19U Diamond and Hampton Roads Warriors 16U Diamond both went 2-0, Saugerties Fillies 16U Elite won twice in cross-division play, and Lehigh Valley Phantoms 16U Platinum won both of their division games.
10U
10U Platinum — Bandits Settle It Late
NJ Bandits and CT Ice Cats Dorival were level after the first period and still level going to the third, when Genevieve Suozzo scored twice in just over three minutes to decide it. Isabelle Wdowiak set up the go-ahead goal. It was the only 10U Platinum game on the weekend schedule.
12U
12U Diamond — Whiteman’s Four Carry the Royals
Ella Whiteman scored four of Royals Hockey Club’s six goals against Snider Hockey, including the one that put the Royals ahead to stay. Snider had tied the game early before the Royals pulled away, and Mara Hideck was the busier goaltender by a wide margin, stopping 34 shots.
16U
16U Platinum — Phantoms Sweep as Williamson and Yoder Share the Load
Lehigh Valley Phantoms won both ends of a 16U Platinum weekend against Tri City Eagles, and Kenzie Williamson and Anniston Yoder finished it on identical lines: four goals and three assists each. They fed each other repeatedly, with Williamson setting up Yoder in the first game and Yoder returning it twice in the second. Mary Losee finished the second game without allowing a goal.
16U Diamond — Warriors Take Both Without Conceding
Hampton Roads Warriors shut Tri City Eagles out twice in two days. Chloe Copen’s goal with 12:52 remaining in the second period settled the 1-0 opener, and Lillianna Smith was the constant across both games — 20 saves on Saturday, 27 on Sunday, nothing past her either day.
16U Elite — Fillies Unbeaten in Cross-Division Play
Saugerties Fillies came through a two-game cross-division weekend with two wins. Madeline Waring led the way with two goals and two assists over the pair, and Jordyn Czamara was perfect in the opener, turning aside all 14 shots she faced.
19U
19U Platinum — Kiger’s Hat Trick for Union Thunder
Union Thunder’s weekend was a single game in cross-division play, and Shayna Kiger made it hers with three goals, including the one that put the Thunder ahead for good. Sarina Sherman was involved in four goals herself, scoring twice and assisting twice, and Alice Seelaus chipped in two goals.
19U Diamond — Reston Sweeps, Smeraglia Scores Both Winners
Reston Raiders took both games from Philadelphia Liberties, and Mia Smeraglia scored the winner in each — the goal that broke a 2-2 tie in the first game and the opening goal of the second. Molly Murphy scored in both games as well. Tri City Eagles also collected a win in the division, with Grace Hainer setting up three goals, and Sasha Puleo scored three times for Princeton Tiger Lilies in cross-division play.
The Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation is heading into another weekend of regular-season action, and the competition is already delivering plenty of excitement.
As teams prepare to take the ice, the early-season picture continues to develop across the federation. Some clubs are looking to extend strong starts, others are working to gain ground in their divisions, and several players are coming off performances that have put them in the spotlight.
Last weekend featured dramatic comebacks, overtime winners, impressive goaltending and a handful of teams that continued building momentum.
With October underway, here’s what to know heading into another weekend of AGHF hockey.
Every Second Counts
The opening weekend of October delivered plenty of excitement across the AGHF.
A total of 44 games were completed October 3-4, with nine decided by a single goal, six requiring overtime and four finishing tied.
Those performances showed just how quickly a game can change — and how important every second can be.
Games and Divisions to Watch
As the regular season continues, several divisions have already shown how competitive the coming weeks could become.
10U Platinum has been particularly exciting. Last weekend’s two-game series between NYC Hockey Club and Princeton Tiger Lilies ended in a split, including the dramatic 6-5 finish. With teams demonstrating their ability to score quickly and battle back, the division is one to keep an eye on.
At 14U Platinum, the Philadelphia Liberties and Potomac Lady Patriots are coming off unbeaten weekends, while the New Jersey Jets received a four-goal performance from Lily Carnevale. The division’s early results suggest that consistency and strong goaltending could play important roles as the season develops.
The 16U Elite division also deserves attention after MYHA’s pair of victories over Princeton Tiger Lilies. Both games highlighted MYHA’s ability to perform in different situations, from a shutout victory to a late comeback and overtime win.
At 19U Diamond, the New York Islanders are carrying momentum after three victories, while Princeton Tiger Lilies and Tri City Eagles demonstrated the importance of defensive play in their scoreless overtime contest.
With another weekend approaching, these divisions offer plenty of storylines worth following as teams continue their regular-season schedules.
Early Divisional Races Begin to Develop
The first few weekends of the season have provided plenty of valuable information.
Teams have had opportunities to test themselves against unfamiliar opponents, adjust to regular-season competition and begin developing their identities.
Now, the focus turns toward consistency.
Last weekend showed that strong goaltending can make the difference in tight contests, while timely scoring can completely change a game’s outcome. Teams that can put together complete performances will have opportunities to gain ground as October continues.
For clubs already near the top of their divisions, the challenge is maintaining that position. For those looking to climb, every weekend presents another chance to make a move.
There is still plenty of hockey ahead, but the early-season results are beginning to tell a story.
And the next chapter starts this weekend.

Ten other teams won both their games, among them Philadelphia Liberties, who came through 14U Platinum unbeaten on the back of a 32-save shutout from Stellie Lewis and two-goal games from Katharine Domenico and Emma Laielli, and who sit joint top of the division on points.
10U
10U Platinum
Princeton Tiger Lilies and NYC Hockey Club met twice on Sunday and split them, the second a 6-5 NYC win decided by Tereza Steskalova’s two goals in the last 20.3 seconds. Kaleigh Anderson finished that game with three goals and two assists, including the helper on both late strikes. Faith Nugent answered with six goals for South Jersey Monarchs in a game that was level at 5-5 going into the third period. Julie Kmieciak scored in all three of Princeton’s games, and the division’s remaining fixture ended 1-1 after overtime, Quinn Shepski making 20 saves for Philadelphia Jr Flyers and Everly Pfender 17 for the Monarchs.
10U Diamond
Team Long Island and MYHA shared the weekend. Gianna Howard opened the scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win for Team Long Island, Celanie Koos added the second and Bailey Russo was untroubled enough to keep the sheet clean. MYHA took Sunday’s rematch 4-3: Anna Eskandari scored twice and set up another, and Madeleine Murray put them ahead for good with 95 seconds left in the second period.
12U

Lily Carnevale scored four for New Jersey Jets, and Potomac Lady Patriots won twice, Savannah Meekins collecting two goals and two assists in the second.

The tightest hockey here came in cross-division play, Saugerties Fillies winning 2-1 on goals from Mei Chen and Gabriella Dziedzic, who also set up the opener. Philadelphia Jr Flyers were the division’s most convincing winners, Giselle Naticchione and Giuliana Danish each posting two goals and an assist and Katelyn Sykes adding two more. Elizabeth Kimmel (two goals, an assist) and Fiona Chong (two goals) carried Union Thunder past Princeton Tiger Lilies.

New York Islanders were the division’s — and the weekend’s — only 3-0 side, with Emma Sherwood posting three goals and four assists in one game and Abigail Randazzo scoring in all three.
19U Elite
MYHA shut out Mon Valley Thunder on Saturday, Juliana Langley breaking through with 91 seconds left in the second period and Sarah Cheney finishing the clean sheet. The rematch was the better game: Mon Valley came from behind twice and Lexie Feathers tied it with 147 seconds to play for a 2-2 result, Megan Harbaugh making 44 saves. Philadelphia Jr Flyers won both of their meetings with Princeton Tiger Lilies, 2-1 and 3-1, Reagan Spottiswoode scoring in each.
The Princeton Tiger Lilies wore pink for a purpose on September 26. PTL’s U12 AAA, U14 AAA, U16 AAA and U19 AAA teams took the ice at East Brunswick Ice Arena for the first of two Pink the Rink events, raising awareness for breast cancer research and funds for Pennies in Action.

PTL U19 AAA in action during Pink the Rink.
The cause has a connection to skating. Pennies in Action was founded by Uschi Keszler, an Olympic skater and coach who survived breast and uterine cancer. The organization supports cancer vaccine research, including work on ways to prompt the immune system to recognize and fight breast cancer. That research is ongoing, and Pennies in Action has been acknowledged as a supporter of published breast cancer vaccine research.

PTL U16 AAA players show the pink jerseys worn for the event.
Across six games on September 26, the four PTL teams faced the NJ Bandits, Team Long Island and JRF. The pink jerseys made the message visible throughout the day: these players were using their time on the ice to support a cause beyond hockey. All proceeds from PTL’s Pink the Rink events will go to Pennies in Action. The effort continues this weekend on October 3 with PTL’s Tier II teams, from U8 through U19.

The first big test of the season is complete. Now, the Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation turns the page to October.
After three packed days at the Ice Breaker Showcase, AGHF teams return to regular-season action October 2–4 with a much better idea of where they stand and what lies ahead.
The Ice Breaker brought together 100 teams from 32 clubs and provided the first major measuring stick of the 2026-27 season. Close games, comeback victories, overtime finishes and standout individual performances filled the weekend.
With the showcase now in the rearview mirror, the focus shifts back to the regular season.
Here’s what to know heading into the first weekend of October.
The Ice Breaker Delivered
If the first showcase was any indication, there should be plenty of competitive hockey ahead.
The Ice Breaker finished with 199 games, and 29 were decided by just one goal. Nine games ended tied and five required overtime.
There was plenty of late-game drama, too. Sixty-four goals were scored inside the final two minutes of the third period, including 22 in the final 30 seconds.
One of the weekend’s biggest moments came at 14U Diamond, where Snider Hockey erased a three-goal deficit to defeat Cranford Hockey Club 5-4 in overtime. Kayden Martinez scored four goals, including the overtime winner.
At 16U Platinum, the New York Islanders overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 6-5, while overtime winners also highlighted the weekend at 12U Platinum, 14U Elite and 19U Elite.
The showcase was designed to test teams against competition they may not normally see during regular-season play.
Consider that test passed.
Now comes the question of which teams can build on what they learned.
Teams Carrying Momentum Into October
Fourteen teams left the Ice Breaker with perfect 4-0 records, giving several clubs plenty of momentum heading into the new month.
The Philadelphia Jr Flyers were perfect in multiple divisions, including 14U Elite and 16U Elite, while Snider Hockey also produced two undefeated showcase performances.
At 10U Platinum, both Snider Hockey and the Princeton Tiger Lilies went 4-0. Stateline Hawks did the same at 10U Diamond.
The perfect weekends continued at 12U Elite. Philadelphia Jr Flyers, Union Thunder and York Lady Devils each went 4-0 in Platinum, while Royals Hockey Club and Snider Hockey ran the table in Diamond.
Among the older teams, MYHA went 4-0 at 19U Elite, while Mon Valley Thunder and Potomac Lady Patriots each posted perfect weekends at 19U Platinum.
Four games in three days can test depth, consistency and resilience. Those teams answered the challenge.
Now they’ll try to carry it into regular-season play.
Players to Watch
The Ice Breaker also gave plenty of players an opportunity to make their mark.
Kayden Martinez of Snider Hockey delivered one of the showcase’s signature performances, scoring four times in a 5-4 overtime comeback victory at 14U Diamond.
Elizabeth Nguyen of MYHA scored three times in a 5-4 victory over Team Long Island before returning Sunday and scoring an overtime winner against the Saugerties Fillies.
At 10U Diamond, Kate Carchidi of the Philadelphia Jr Flyers scored five times in a 7-5 victory over the CT Ice Cats, while Rebecca Henderson of Team Long Island scored four goals in a tightly contested 14U Elite matchup against MYHA.
Goaltenders made their presence felt throughout the weekend as well.
Julianna Swigart of the South Jersey Monarchs faced an incredible 146 shots over two days at 19U Platinum, while Sarah Ismail of the Reston Raiders recorded a 44-save shutout at 19U Diamond.
Those were some of the names that made noise at the showcase. October brings the opportunity to see who keeps it going.
From Showcase Mode Back to the Regular Season
Showcase weekends are different.
Four games packed into one weekend can bring unfamiliar opponents, quick turnarounds and little time to adjust between games. That makes the Ice Breaker a valuable early-season test.
Now, teams return to the rhythm of regular-season hockey with more information than they had a week ago.
Some discovered they can win close games. Others showed they can come from behind. Some found scoring depth, while others received big performances between the pipes.
And for teams that didn’t get the results they wanted, the showcase provided something just as valuable: an early opportunity to identify what needs to improve.
With September complete, the standings will continue to develop and every weekend provides another opportunity to gain ground.
The first measuring stick is behind us.
Now it’s time to build.

The Atlantic Girls Hockey Federation kicks off its showcase season with the Ice Breaker Showcase, September 25–27. It brings three days of girls hockey to 10 rinks across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The numbers show how much the league has grown. 100 teams from 32 clubs will play 200 games over the weekend, and every team is guaranteed four games. The field includes AGHF member clubs and guest teams, from Hampton Roads, Virginia, north to Connecticut and upstate New York. All five AGHF age groups will be in action: 17 teams at 10U, 18 at 12U, 26 at 14U and 39 in the combined 16U/19U bracket. There are 16 Elite teams, 40 Diamond teams and 43 Platinum teams.
The showcase format is one of AGHF’s calling cards. It gives teams four competitive games in one weekend against opponents they don’t see in the regular season, with less travel. For many players it is also the first real test of the new season.
New Faces in the Field
The Ice Breaker is the first showcase for several clubs that joined AGHF this year:
- Union Thunder arrive with six teams, from 10U through 19U.
- NYC Hockey Club is in its first full girls travel season. The club is run by North Park Hockey, which dates back to 1987, and brings teams at 10U, 14U and 16U.
- Loudoun Knights, a Tier II program from Leesburg, Virginia, enter their 12U Diamond team.
The biggest group comes from the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, with 11 teams. The Princeton Tiger Lilies and New York Islanders each bring seven.

There will be plenty going on away from the ice. Simax will be on site at Jersey Shore Arena, Ice Vault and Igloo Ice Rink, so players and families can shop for merchandise all weekend.
Carmo Photography will cover the games at Igloo Ice Rink and Ice Line, so families can get professional photos from the first showcase of the season.
Watch Live on Black Bear TV
Can’t make it to the rink? Games at participating Black Bear Sports Group rinks will stream live on Black Bear TV, so family, friends and fans can follow along all weekend.
Friday has 10 games, then the schedule fills up with 100 games on Saturday and 90 on Sunday. The Ice Breaker Showcase starts another exciting AGHF showcase season.
